Flexibility is central to every human activity. It transcends performance and is critical to maintaining a full range of motion and agility. Yet possibly amongst the most under-rated aspects of our health and wellness are joint mobility and flexibility. It is amazing how much we take it for granted that is until an injury or the onset of a restrictive condition such as arthritis sets in. Then we learn to appreciate our joints and the freedom they offer.
It is normal to experience some muscle stiffness as we get older but that does not have to spell an end to exercise and activity. Regular stretching can help to maintain and even improve flexibility and mobility giving you a spring in your step and feelings of renewed vitality. A flexible body promotes a relaxed body. There is less chance of injury and it helps promote a general feeling of balance and wellbeing. By giving the body greater mobility the chance of repetitive motion injuries are reduced while posture and balance are improved. The body will also encounter a sense of increased energy and enhanced mental awareness as blood flow is improved.
