Spot Reducing Body Fat
Thursday, February 19, 2009 at 9:51PM Hello All,
One of the most common questions I get from my newsletter readers has to do with spot reducing some area of fat from their body.
I want to make it very clear that you CANNOT, WILL NOT, EVER spot reduce fat from your belly, thighs, bottom or anywhere else, (unless you suck it out with a stainless steel tube via liposuction - please don't do that).
Here is why:-
Your fat, to be used as energy, travels to your liver where it is converted into fatty acids. These fatty acids are then sent to your muscles as fuel.
The problem is that this fat comes from fat cells all over your body, not just one area or another. Also the fat that is used for fuel is typically the fat that has been on your body the longest, which is one of the reasons why losing fat from your trouble areas is so difficult...places you have more fat cells (your trouble areas) are typically the last places the fat is drawn from!
SO -
- You must apply the following two methods over at least a few weeks to see noticeable differences in your problem areas:
1. Create a calorie deficit each day through proper nutrition and water intake. This ensures the liver can do its job of converting the fat for energy.
2. Create a larger calorie deficit by adding lean muscle to your body. Proper strength training will not only raise your resting metabolic rate, it will also ensure the weight loss is from fat, not muscle. It will also shape and define your problem areas, and even smooth overlying fat and skin, helping to reduce cellulite appearance if present.
So that's it...NO SPOT REDUCING, just FAT REDUCTION & MUSCLE PRODUCTION...got it? Great!
