Altered Images Revolutions biking - AIRbiking
AIRbiking is a safe, none impact indoor group cycling exercise set to music. It is a high energy activity catering for all fitness levels as everyone can work out at their own pace. Two instructors are provided to ensure that everyone is given the required care and attention. Classes are fun, motivational and friendly.
A typical class consists of simulated hills and flats, varying leg speeds and seated and standing options with each person in charge of their own level of workout via gears to create variable resistance. Because of the nature of the bikes and the options available, these instructor led AIRbiking sessions can help people of very different fitness levels and cycling abilities take part in the same class and enjoy a workout that is just right for you.
AIRbiking is available on a monthly unlimited use Membership, as a Pay As You Go activity or at discounted rates on a Ticket To Ride. The facility and instructors are also available for group hire.
RIDE FOR YOUR LIFE
This programme is intended to improve the health and fitness, skills and performance of road cyclists, triathletes, mountain bikers and fitness enthusiasts alike.
Granted, indoor cycling can become monotonous in winter months, but having a creative workout regimen will better target your cycling and fitness goals and provide you with a stronger sense of direction for those days when you can hit the roads or trails as weather permits.
The programme is organised according to the client’s specific conditioning goals and rooted in the fundamentals that make up our training philosophy: Endurance, Force, Speed Skills, Muscular Endurance, Anaerobic Endurance, and Power. The workouts use heart rate, rate of perceived exertion and critical power (measured in watts) to define each set or repeat interval. Periodization principles are followed and the workouts are thus sequenced for improved fitness. Many types of session are available that encompass the broad range of cycling abilities from sprinting out of a pack in a criterium to long races such as the 112 mile bike segment of the Ironman distance triathlon.
We recognise that most clients have many other responsibilities and interests to juggle along with cycling, and time is a valuable commodity. In designing the workouts in this Programme, we have tried to tackle each objective as efficiently as possible.
Cyclists, triathletes and other fitness enthusiasts who hope to improve their physical conditioning must formulate a plan. Too often, clients have previously mixed and matched different workouts without taking into account the bigger picture. This practice leads to mediocre performance. This programme focuses on two sessions per week for six weeks with an option to train (free) using a prescribed session on a third day each week if desired. Some days will find you spinning easy on the bike, perhaps to achieve recovery or work on technique while other days you will push with faster and more intense workouts.
Indoor cycling by definition lacks much of the variety that outdoor cycling offers. While some equipment, such as the Wattbike with all the performance monitoring feedback, can help alleviate boredom, we are sure these workouts and programme will keep your indoor, as well as outdoor cycling and other pursuits interesting and help you achieve your specific fitness goals.
Background
Indoor cycling is an instructor led group cardio vascular exercise class using stationary bikes specifically designed for the purpose.
Indoor Cycling or SpinningR as many people still generically refer to it was first started in California in 1989 by cyclist Johny Goldberg as an alternative to outdoor cycle training during winter months. Johny teamed up with bike manufacturers Shwinn to create a Spinning Bike and training programme and it soon became a huge fitness buzz in the US and across the world. The bikes used and copied by all manufacturers consisted of a fixed gear, or fixed wheel mechanism. Whilst there has been a gradual evolution of the concept with the addition of smoother cranks, sweat resistant frames, electronic monitors and the addition of safety features to account for the dangers incumbent with fixed wheels it has taken until now and the introduction of the Wattbike to break the mould of the style of bike then created.
